GLENDALE, AZ (AZFamily)<\/b> \u2014 A Glendale man is facing a new federal charge after a grand jury indicted him in connection with an antisemitic flyer posted at a Phoenix synagogue.<\/p>\n

Federal prosecutors said Kevin Charles Pyles, 33, was indicted in Phoenix on a charge of intentional defacement of religious real property. The indictment alleges Pyles posted an antisemitic flyer on the front door of Sha\u2019arei Shalom Congregation on July 11, 2025.<\/p>\n

Pyles has also been prosecuted in state court. Court records show he previously pleaded guilty in Maricopa County Superior Court to attempted making and communicating a terrorism threat stemming from online threats that targeted the Jewish community and Sha\u2019arei Shalom Congregation.<\/p>\n

U.S. Attorney Timothy Courchaine said the indictment is meant to send a message that defacing a house of worship will not be tolerated.<\/p>\n

\u201cMembers of the Arizona community should feel free to worship without the fear of harassment,\u201d Courchaine said in a statement.<\/p>\n

Phoenix Police Department Chief Matt Giordano said acts that target or intimidate people undermine the city\u2019s values and that the department is committed to working with federal partners.<\/p>\n

\u201cEveryone who calls Phoenix home, and everyone who visits our city, deserves to feel welcome and safe. Acts that target or intimidate any part of our community undermine the values we stand for,\u201d said Phoenix Police Department Chief Matt Giordano. \u201cThe Phoenix Police Department takes these crimes seriously, and we remain committed to working with our partners to protect our community.\u201d<\/p>\n

If convicted on the federal charge, Pyles could face up to one year in prison, a $100,000 fine, or both.<\/p>\n
