TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) – As an Extreme Heat Warning<\/b><\/u><\/i> smothers southern Arizona, the Pima County Adult Detention Complex is having AC issues.<\/p>\n

13 News received a tip from a viewer, claiming the jail was without air conditioning in Pods 2A and 2B. The viewer said her fianc\u00e9 is in custody and claimed it has been out for more than two weeks and that \u201cpeople were getting sick.\u201d<\/p>\n

13 News reached out to the Pima County Sheriff\u2019s Department, which confirmed on Tuesday, June 23, that it is having HVAC issues.<\/p>\n

The PCSD said its facilities department has identified the problem, got the repair parts, and is working to fix it.<\/p>\n

The PCSD said that while AC is working in the jail, it is not \u201cperforming at optimal capacity.\u201d<\/p>\n

The 13 News viewer who brought it to our attention said she has called several times and has been told that \u201cmaintenance is working on it.\u201d<\/p>\n

She also claimed that due to short staffing, there are three people in her fianc\u00e9\u2019s cell and that everyone is on lockdown.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere might be fans in there, but they\u2019re all pointed in directions that don\u2019t hit the inmates,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

According to the 13 News First Alert Weather Team,<\/b><\/u><\/i> the Extreme Heat Warning will last through Thursday, and we will see highs nearing 111 degrees.<\/p>\n

The county jail has been in the spotlight a lot this month, as two inmates died there in less than a week.<\/p>\n

On June 11, 62-year-old Raymond Lee Davis was found unresponsive in his cell and died<\/b><\/u><\/i>. Several 13 News viewers\/inmates claimed Davis had a medical emergency and that other inmates had to bang on their doors to get the correction officer\u2019s attention.<\/p>\n

On Jan. 16, 35-year-old John Russell Thrasher IV died following a medical emergency at the jail.<\/b><\/u><\/i><\/p>\n
