MESA, AZ (AZFamily)<\/b> \u2014 Three Mesa police officers were hospitalized after helping rescue two people and their pets from a house fire Wednesday night.<\/p>\n

Around 9 p.m., officers were called to reports of a house fire near Baseline Road and 78th Street. <\/p>\n

When they arrived, they found a car fire with flames spreading to an RV, nearby brush and parts of a home, according to the Mesa Police Department. <\/p>\n

Authorities say they found a distraught man outside the home who was trying to get back inside because an woman was still inside.<\/p>\n

Body camera video released by the apartment shows officers forcing their way into the smoke-filled home. They found the woman and helped her get out safely.<\/p>\n

While officers were helping the woman outside, the man tried to go back in to save some of his belongings, and officers had to go in again to get him.<\/p>\n

Fire crews extinguished the flames and kept the damage limited to the property involved. No neighboring homes were affected.<\/p>\n

Both people were displaced, but neither was injured.<\/p>\n

Several officers who went inside the home were taken to a hospital to be evaluated for smoke inhalation. <\/p>\n

Police say pool chemicals possibly started the fire. A neighbor who called 911 said she knows the couple and that the man works for a pool company. She said she heard loud pops and saw the flames spread quickly.<\/p>\n

Fire investigators are still working to determine an official cause of the fire but say it is not suspicious.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat they found in that car, there was some chemicals for a pool, and they believe that might\u2019ve been what started the fire,\u201d said Mesa Police Detective Laura Cervantes.<\/p>\n

The home is heavily burnt and not safe to live in. Neighbors say the couple mostly keep to themselves but are very kind. The neighbor who called 911 said they feed stray cats in the neighborhood.<\/p>\n
