SUPERIOR, AZ (AZFamily)<\/b> \u2014 A Valley family of four narrowly avoided a head-on collision with a small plane making an emergency landing on U.S. 60 near Superior during the weekend.<\/p>\n

Kristal Ewing, her husband and their two children were driving home to Mesa after a Mother\u2019s Day hike when they noticed a small plane flying in front of them.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe didn\u2019t notice that it was struggling or anything like that. To us, it just looked like an airplane was flying,\u201d Ewing said.<\/p>\n

Their dashcam video captured the plane starting to slowly descend. The family realized something was wrong moments before the plane made a hard landing on the highway, only feet in front of their truck.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere were seconds to react. There wasn\u2019t really anything to do. Except, hang on,\u201d Ewing said.<\/p>\n

Ewing\u2019s husband veered to the left, pulling onto the highway median. The plane\u2019s wing sliced directly above their pickup truck\u2019s cab, and the propeller hit the back of the truck.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s still kind of surreal when I see the footage. It looks like it happened to someone else or maybe, you know, it was faked, but I was there. It happened,\u201d Ewing said.<\/p>\n

The truck\u2019s rear camera showed the plane continuing along the highway until it hit a sign and stopped.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s still kind of shocking when I think about it and how close it really got. Like this could have ended so much worse, but I\u2019m just really thankful that we were all able to walk away. Everyone, even the pilot was OK,\u201d Ewing said.<\/p>\n

No one was injured. The truck sustained only a small mark from the plane\u2019s propeller. Ewing and her husband took a photo documenting the incident.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s definitely a Mother\u2019s Day to remember,\u201d Ewing said.<\/p>\n

The plane\u2019s owner said the pilot had just left the airport for a recreational flight when the plane stalled. The full investigation into the crash could take more than a year.<\/p>\n

The incident marks the third time a plane has landed on an Arizona road in the past month.<\/p>\n
