CHANDLER, AZ (AZFamily)<\/b> \u2014 A traffic stop led to police chasing a reckless driver and grappling their vehicle in Chandler earlier this month.<\/p>\n

Police say on June 5 around 10 p.m., a Chandler officers attempted to pull over a driver for a minor traffic violation near 116th Street and Riggs Road, east of Arizona Avenue. The driver reportedly refused to stop, and the officer alerted the department\u2019s Street Crimes Unit to bring a grappler vehicle.<\/p>\n

Officers witnessed the driver speeding, running red lights and passing in a no pass zone, according to authorities. An officer successfully deployed the grappler, stopping the reckless driver. <\/p>\n

\u201cHands up! Driver, get your hands up!\u201d the officer yells. \u201cDriver, shut the vehicle off!\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cPut your hands out the window right now!\u201d another officer yells while pointing a gun at the vehicle. <\/p>\n

Investigators say an armed suspect ran into the desert during the stop and refused to obey the officer\u2019s commands to stop reaching into their waistband. <\/p>\n

\u201cOne bailing out,\u201c one officer radios. \u201cDon\u2019t be reaching!\u201d one officer yells as they begin chasing the suspect. \u201cStop reaching! Stop reaching!\u201d<\/p>\n

The officer used his taser to stop the suspect, and they were taken into custody.<\/p>\n

Three people were detained after the stop. Video shows one suspect walking backward toward police with their hands in the air. <\/p>\n

Police say the driver was arrested for failure to yield, and one passenger is facing charges for having a firearm as a prohibited possessor.<\/p>\n

This is one of several incidents where Valley law enforcement has stopped drivers with grapplers in recent weeks. On Monday, a man reportedly led police on a chase onto the Loop 202 Red Mountain in Phoenix before his vehicle was grappled by Mesa police. <\/p>\n

Last week, Arizona Department of Public Safety troopers used a grappler to stop a wrong-way driver who led authorities on a pursuit through north Phoenix.<\/p>\n
