BUCKEYE, AZ (AZFamily)<\/b> \u2014 Police body camera video shows a Buckeye officer sprinting after two teens with his Taser drawn. The teens had allegedly stolen alcohol from a store and crashed into a parked car.<\/p>\n

Buckeye police arrested the 19-year-olds, James Romanoff and Nathen Paterakis, and charged an 18-year-old driver after police said the three stole alcohol and food from a QuikTrip.<\/p>\n

According to police, the three teens then crashed into a pillar and a parked car while trying to get away. The body camera video shows an officer pulling up to the two 19-year-olds who leave the scene. The officer takes off on foot as the teens hop over a barricade. He chases them with his Taser drawn and within seconds, they surrender.<\/p>\n

Teen safety advocates warn of summer risks<\/h2>\n

Teen safety advocate Katey McPherson said summer can be a dangerous mix of free time and risky choices.<\/p>\n

\u201cTypically boredom leads to some great choices and some not so great choices,\u201d McPherson said.<\/p>\n

McPherson said she has seen more aggressive and destructive behavior nationally in the last five years post-COVID-19.<\/p>\n

McPherson is urging parents to talk with their kids now. Earlier this month, Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell warned about a summer surge in teen crime.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy hope is that your child is never sitting in a courtroom facing years of their lives locked away,\u201d Mitchell said.<\/p>\n

McPherson said parents cannot afford to check out during the summer. She said knowing where kids are and who they are with can be the difference between a summer memory and a criminal record.<\/p>\n

\u201cHaving ongoing pervasive conversations, connecting as a family, putting phones down as a family, spending time together,\u201d McPherson said.<\/p>\n

McPherson said parents should also talk with their kids about how these actions will follow them when they are adults, especially since nothing is ever truly gone from the internet.<\/p>\n
