TELLURIDE, CO (AZFamily)<\/b> \u2014 A Phoenix woman is back with her family after she got lost while hiking with her son in southwestern Colorado wilderness and had to be rescued.<\/p>\n

The 48-year-old woman was hiking on the Woods Lake Trail Tuesday evening when she and her son somehow got separated about 12 miles west of Telluride in the Uncompahgre National Forest and the Lizard Head Wilderness.<\/p>\n

Her son told the San Miguel County Sheriff\u2019s Office that she was not prepared for a possible overnight stay in the backcountry.<\/p>\n

San Miguel search crews teamed up with Dolores County crews and after about two hours of looking, they found the woman around 10:30 p.m. near the intersection of Woods Lake Trail and Navajo Lake Trail in Dolores County at about 11,200 feet. She was not hurt but was cold and lost, officials said.<\/p>\n

Search and rescue teams walked her to safety along the Navajo Lake Trail to the trailhead parking lot. That\u2019s where she was reunited with her son.<\/p>\n

\u201cI continue to be impressed by and very proud of our Search and Rescue team,\u201d San Miguel County Sheriff Dan Covault said in a written statement. \u201cWe hope you enjoy recreating in the backcountry this summer and when you do, be sure to carry extra food, water, clothing, and a reliable light source in case an emergency leaves you without shelter for an unexpected extended period of time.\u201d<\/p>\n
