YUMA (AZFamily)<\/b> \u2014 Yuma Proving Ground ushered in a new chapter of leadership during a change-of-command ceremony that welcomed Col. Charles Seaberry as the installation\u2019s new commander.<\/p>\n

Seaberry said the post was his first choice, citing Yuma Proving Ground\u2019s reputation across the armed services and its highly skilled workforce.<\/p>\n

\u201cReady to get started, ready to do what you know the mission calls from me to do,\u201d Seaberry said.<\/p>\n

The transition comes as Yuma Proving Ground continues to draw national attention for its role in modernizing the U.S. Army. The installation is a major hub for long-range artillery testing for U.S. ground forces, helping evaluate new capabilities before they reach troops.<\/p>\n

The proving ground has also supported high-profile testing beyond traditional weapons systems. It recently played a key role in developmental testing for Orion\u2019s parachute system, equipment used to return astronauts safely to Earth after a moon fly-by earlier this year.<\/p>\n

Seaberry said improving the speed and efficiency of testing will be a priority under his command. <\/p>\n

\u201cOur ability to test and turn around capability to get that data back to the hands of the users so they can make informed decisions is something that I look to make one of our top priorities,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

In addition to overseeing a facility that generates more than $1 billion per year, Seaberry will lead a workforce of more than 2,000 civilian employees.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs the commander, I work for you, and I am looking forward to working with all of the industry partners\u2026 our serving leaders within the community as well as the soldiers and civilians on this installation,\u201d Seaberry said.<\/p>\n

He also said he hopes to strengthen ties with the Yuma community and build a long-term commitment to safety at the Army testing installation. <\/p>\n

Seaberry is expected to remain in command for two years, and he said he is eager to get started.<\/p>\n
