SURPRISE, AZ (AZFamily)<\/b> \u2014 A third juvenile has been charged after a 15-year-old was assaulted in an ambush attack at a Surprise party earlier this year. <\/p>\n

Surprise Police announced the new charges against the juvenile on Thursday. Due to the suspect\u2019s age, no identifying information will be released. <\/p>\n

The assault remains an active investigation, police said, as detectives work to identify everyone involved. <\/p>\n

Detectives have also determined the case meets criteria for charges under Preston\u2019s Law, which establishes in lopsided assaults, also known as swarming. The law was signed into law in May 2025 and named after Preston Lord, who was brutally beaten by a group of teens in an ambush attack outside a 2023 Halloween house party in Queen Creek.<\/p>\n

Two other juveniles have already been charged in the Surprise case. They\u2019re also not being identified due to age. <\/p>\n

Attacked at an unsupervised party<\/h2>\n

The victim, 15-year-old boy, was lured to a pool party on April 4 near Sarival Avenue and Greenway Road, just seven minutes away from his home, according to his attorney.<\/p>\n

The teen was taken to the backyard when he first arrived. That\u2019s where the lawyer said a group stomped on his head, kicked and punched him before throwing him in the pool.<\/p>\n

Videos from witnesses circulated online show the attack from multiple angles as it lasted for minutes. The teen made a run for it and managed to get back home, where his mother called police.<\/p>\n

Surprise PD said this was a \u201clarge, unsupervised gathering\u201d and that the details were shared on social media, drawing a large crowd that the host told police they did not know. <\/p>\n
