PHOENIX (AZFamily)<\/b> \u2014 New photos obtained from Phoenix police records show a 10-year-old girl had visible signs of abuse months before prosecutors say she was tortured to death.<\/p>\n

Rebekah Baptiste was found unconscious July 27, 2025, in the Holbrook area. She died three days later from injuries consistent with torture, according to prosecutors.<\/p>\n

Her father, Richard Baptiste, and his girlfriend, Anicia Woods, have been charged with first-degree murder in connection with her death.<\/p>\n

At least a dozen reports were made to the Department of Child Safety (DCS) about abuse in the home. Reports detailed how Rebekah had run away several times, telling police she was being abused, but she was returned to the home.<\/p>\n

October 2024 hospital visit<\/h2>\n

Thirteen photos were taken of Rebekah at a hospital on Oct. 17, 2024, after she ran away from home. She made it to a QT gas station on Camelback, asking for help.<\/p>\n

The employee called the police, and she was taken to Phoenix Children\u2019s Hospital.<\/p>\n

This was one of at least 12 reports over the years raising concerns about the safety of Rebekah and her two younger siblings.<\/p>\n

The report taken that day says Rebekah told police she was being abused by Woods.<\/p>\n

Rebekah showed officers bruises on her hands and feet. A Phoenix police officer took the photos and documented Rebekah had a bloody lip.<\/p>\n

The report said the officer asked Rebekah where each bruise came from. She said Woods hit her with a brush on the backs of her hands. The officer reported that it matched up.<\/p>\n

She also stated she was hit with the brush and a belt on her feet, and pointed out bruising and red marks. The pictures show both her feet. The officer documented that the injuries matched the account.<\/p>\n

During the interview, Rebekah told the officer it \u201chappened a lot.\u201d She said she got in trouble more and \u201charder\u201d than her two younger siblings.<\/p>\n

Investigation closed<\/h2>\n

The report said police interviewed both parents, Woods and Baptiste.<\/p>\n

At the time, the report said they told investigators that Rebekah was hurting herself.<\/p>\n

Police determined there was not enough evidence for charges, so they closed the case in 2024.<\/p>\n

A DCS report indicates that Rebekah had marks on her hands and feet, and other children were disciplined through exercise. No evidence was found to support the claims, and the case was closed on Nov. 18, 2024.<\/p>\n

Nine months after police took the photos, she was found beaten and bruised.<\/p>\n

Multiple police officers took incident reports in 2024. They include criminal background checks on Woods and Baptiste, reports of a prior molestation case involving Rebekah, and DCS documentation about incidents involving Rebekah and her siblings.<\/p>\n

Baptiste and Woods are awaiting trial. <\/p>\n
