PHOENIX (AZFamily)<\/b> \u2014 A Deer Valley Unified School District governing board meeting devolved into shouting, interruptions and a cut microphone Tuesday night, as renewed backlash continued over a board member\u2019s Nazi salute and remarks made at a previous meeting.<\/p>\n

Board member Kim Fisher has not apologized for the gesture. Instead, she has doubled down\u2014again calling board President Paul Carver a dictator.<\/p>\n

Many might wonder how it got this explosive. But beyond the theatrics, it reflects a disagreement between two people elected to work together on policies impacting Deer Valley students and parents.<\/p>\n

Tuesday night\u2019s meeting drew a packed crowd inside the Deer Valley Unified School District headquarters. It was the first meeting since May 26, when Fisher made a Nazi salute and said \u201cHeil,\u201d while calling Carver a dictator.<\/p>\n

Twenty speakers addressed the board during public comment Tuesday night, with nearly all of them aimed at Fisher. Between speakers, clapping and cheering filled the room, and Carver largely did not stop it.<\/p>\n

By the end of the meeting, during Fisher\u2019s time to speak, her microphone was cut and she left early.<\/p>\n

The outbursts from the audience were uncommon compared with most school board or city meetings. We sat down with Carver and asked: If this is against policy and procedure, why was it allowed?<\/p>\n

\u201cIf I find out later it could have been handled better, it will be better moving forward,\u201d Carver said.<\/p>\n

After Fisher left, we spoke exclusively with her and asked if she regretted calling Carver a dictator again.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo, I actually think that\u2019s really important. More than anything, they want to put the importance on the symbolism of what I did, and I understand their point in that because, to them, it\u2019s a Nazi symbol and things of that nature,\u201d Fisher said.<\/p>\n

Fisher said much of the blame for the fallout lies with the teachers\u2019 union, accusing it of taking the moment out of context and saying the Jewish community is being manipulated. She said she has felt isolated on the board and attributed that to Carver\u2019s leadership.<\/p>\n

Carver said the focus should be on kids and that the bickering is not beneficial to anyone. <\/p>\n

We asked him: If you are a parent moving to Deer Valley, and you saw Fisher\u2019s gesture and how the meeting was run Tuesday night, why should you trust the board with your child?<\/p>\n

Carver acknowledged there is a fracture on the board and said he received negative feedback about the meeting. He said the board needs to come together.<\/p>\n

Fisher has refused calls to resign. <\/p>\n
