TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) – A wildfire can destroy everything in its vicinity in the blink of an eye.<\/p>\n

Northwest Fire Battalion Chief Mike Rollman said that planning ahead before tragedy strikes can make a huge difference.<\/p>\n

\u201cPut some thought into this ahead of time so we\u2019re not having to run around and do this in the last minute\u201d, Rollman said. <\/p>\n

Many already know about your standard \u201cgo bag\u201d with food, water, and first aid supplies. But what about the important documents you might need?<\/p>\n

\u201cImportant items like birth certificates, marriage certificates, insurance cards, medical information, prescription medications, and medical history,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd if applicable, citizenship documents.\u201d<\/p>\n

These are records that will be essential to starting over.<\/p>\n

So, where do you keep these digital files? Rollman encourages uploading to cloud storage. <\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019re easily retrievable,\u201d he said. \u201cThey can log in remotely; they don\u2019t have to be at their house. A lot of services people already have that have cloud storage for them.\u201d<\/p>\n

He also suggests encrypted USB drives or external hard drives as a backup.<\/p>\n

And one final reminder: when first responders arrive, you are their priority.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf there\u2019s something that\u2019s of particular importance, absolutely let us know, but we\u2019re gonna do the best we can. Certainly, our priority is human lives and pets\u201d, Rollman said. <\/p>\n
