MESA, AZ (AZFamily)<\/b> \u2014 The family of a man found dead outside a facility that serves people with developmental disabilities is pushing for answers.<\/p>\n

Police found 36-year-old Lorenzo Lopez dead inside a van parked outside Pathways for Life in Mesa on Thursday after temperatures that day soared above 100 degrees.<\/p>\n

\u201cSomething went wrong; this should not happen,\u201d said Heather Bushor, litigating attorney with the Shapiro Law Team.<\/p>\n

Family devastated by loss<\/b>.<\/h4>\n

Bushor will represent Lopez\u2019s family in any future wrongful death lawsuit filed. She said they are conducting their own investigation, trying to determine how Lopez died and who, if anyone, is responsible.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe family is very upset right now, devastated, it\u2019s terrible. Lorenzo didn\u2019t come home on Thursday, June 4, and still isn\u2019t home,\u201d Bushor said.<\/p>\n

She said Lopez relied fully on his family for care.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe cannot survive on his own \u2014 he\u2019s mentally and physically disabled,” Bushor said. \u201cHe lived with his close immediate family, they cared for him every day, very involved in his life.\u201d<\/p>\n

15 years at the facility<\/b><\/h4>\n

Bushor said for 15 years, Lopez was picked up by Pathways five days a week and would spend the majority of his day at their facility.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe gets picked up around 7:30 every morning,\u201d Bushor said. \u201cHe normally comes home around 4:30 in the afternoon, and he never got dropped off.\u201d<\/p>\n

Attorneys, police and Lopez\u2019s family are trying to piece together what happened between the pickup that morning and the police finding his body that evening.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s an absolute tragedy, it\u2019s absolutely devastating to anybody who knows about it, hears about it, knows anything about the family. I don\u2019t know how it couldn\u2019t affect somebody. It\u2019s terrible,\u201d Bushor said.<\/p>\n

Seeking accountability<\/b><\/h4>\n

Lopez leaves behind his family, who are demanding answers and accountability not only for themselves, but with the hope of protecting others.<\/p>\n

\u201cTheir main purpose in this is to figure out what happened, get the truth, but also to make sure it doesn\u2019t happen again to someone else,\u201d Bushor said.<\/p>\n

Mesa police didn\u2019t have any new updates to share on Monday. The medical examiner\u2019s office hasn\u2019t released Lopez\u2019s cause of death.<\/p>\n

A company spokesperson with Pathways for Life released the following statement on Monday, confirming that involved staff members have been placed on administrative leave.<\/p>\n
