TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) – The Santa Cruz Humane Society is closing its doors in Fall of 2026. <\/p>\n

The humane society expects to be fully closed by September. <\/p>\n

Santa Cruz Humane Society Board President Sue Rogers says financial difficulties over the last year led to this decision. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe started looking over the books last October and noticed that the funds weren\u2019t coming in, grants were smaller, and expenses tripled,\u201d Rogers said. <\/p>\n

Rogers and her husband even put in some of their own money at one point to keep the humane society running. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s been a very hard decision, and I\u2019ve spent many weeks pouring over the books,\u201d Rogers said. <\/p>\n

The humane society will stay open in the meantime while they look to rehome the animals in their care. <\/p>\n

\u201cWhat I\u2019m asking is to keep us going while we get the animals out,\u201d Rogers said. <\/p>\n

Rogers told 13 News they have been in talks with the City of Nogales and Santa Cruz County for animal control to take over, yet nothing has been confirmed. <\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m very thankful for the support that the community has shown us,\u201d Rogers said. <\/p>\n

The humane society will accept donations until the weekend of June 19. <\/p>\n
