HAMMOND, La. (WVUE\/Gray News) – Authorities in Louisiana say an innocent woman was shot and killed Thursday at a Chevron gas station. <\/p>\n

According to the Hammond Police Department, officers responded to the gas station on U.S. 190 for shots fired at about 1:15 a.m. <\/p>\n

Patricia Shepard, 50, was found shot multiple times inside a parked car at the gas pump. Police said she died at the scene.<\/p>\n

According to police, a white sedan pulled up next to the parked gray sedan that Shepard was in, and two armed suspects began firing up to 80 gunshots into the vehicle. <\/p>\n

Security footage from the gas station captured the disturbing scene, where the suspect vehicle could be seen speeding away following the shooting. <\/p>\n

Hammond Police Chief Edwin Bergeron Jr. said the department believes the suspects were trying to target someone and thought the person in the car was somebody else.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe lady in the car, Ms. Patricia, who has lost her life, was an absolutely innocent victim in this,\u201d Bergeron said.<\/p>\n

According to Bergeron, Shepard was getting a ride home from work from the driver of the gray sedan. The suspects had stalked the car and were targeting someone who had already gotten out. <\/p>\n

\u201cShe was at the wrong place, unfortunately, at the wrong time,\u201d Bergeron said.<\/p>\n

Terrence Selders, who works near the crime scene, said he could have easily been there Thursday morning.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a nice store, but it just makes it difficult that you just don\u2019t want to come out, especially at night,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Bergeron said his detectives have several leads in the case. He said there are two to three suspects they are actively pursuing and that his detectives will not rest until they are in custody.<\/p>\n

Bergeron added that detectives believe they know some motives in the case, but they are not releasing those details at this time.<\/p>\n

The suspects involved in the shooting were using a stolen vehicle that was taken from McComb, Mississippi, in a carjacking on Tuesday, police said. <\/p>\n

\u201cThese are the people who are affecting our community. These are the trash bags that are destroying communities across our country every single day,\u201d Bergeron said.<\/p>\n
