{"id":1421,"date":"2026-06-03T20:34:32","date_gmt":"2026-06-03T20:34:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tucsonmovingreport.com\/?p=1421"},"modified":"2026-06-03T20:34:32","modified_gmt":"2026-06-03T20:34:32","slug":"viral-videos-prompt-doj-investigation-into-dei-programs-at-asu","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tucsonmovingreport.com\/?p=1421","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Viral videos\u2019 prompt DOJ investigation into DEI programs at ASU"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<section>\n<p><b>PHOENIX (AZFamily)<\/b> \u2014 Federal officials announced on Wednesday a new investigation into Arizona State University\u2019s diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/tucsonmovingreport.com\/?p=1419\">Tucson Now: EMDR therapy and the negative impact of self-medication<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Justice Department\u2019s Civil Rights Division says the investigation is in response to \u201crecent viral videos.\u201d The videos allege that ASU may have denied equal treatment to students based on race, color, or national origin and may have tried to hide those practices from federal oversight.<\/p>\n<p>No other specific details about the videos were released.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo student should be denied access to opportunities or resources because of race, color, or national origin,\u201d Assistant Attorney General Harmeet K. Dhillon of the Justice Department\u2019s Civil Rights Division said in a news release. \u201cThe United States is committed to keeping universities free of unlawful discrimination, especially when they try to hide illegal conduct to avoid oversight and compliance.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Federal law requires colleges and universities that receive federal funding to open doors to students, no matter their race, color or national origin. <\/p>\n<p>ASU is one of the nation\u2019s largest universities, home to over 160,000 students online and across numerous campuses. <\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/tucsonmovingreport.com\/?p=1417\">Tucson Police arrest two teens on weapons misconduct charges<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Federal investigators will look at whether the university\u2019s DEI policies have led to discrimination in areas such as admissions, recruiting, scholarships, tutoring and educational support services. <\/p>\n<p>The investigation remains ongoing, and no findings have been determined. <\/p>\n<p>Arizona\u2019s Family has reached out to ASU for comment.<\/p>\n<p><i>See a spelling or grammatical error in our story? <\/i><i>Please click here to report it<\/i><i>.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>Do you have a photo or video of a breaking news story?
