(Gray News) – CBS News fired veteran \u201c60 Minutes\u201d correspondent Scott Pelley on Tuesday following a meeting with management where he reportedly criticized the newsmagazine\u2019s leadership. <\/p>\n

Dylan Byers, a senior correspondent for Puck, posted a statement from Pelley on X. In it, among other accusations, the former news anchor accused the show\u2019s new management of telling him \u201cto inject falsehoods and bias into a politically sensitive story.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe collapse of values at the top has become untenable. The leadership of 60 Minutes is no longer recognizable. The principles I hold dear are gone, and so I must leave as well,\u201d said Pelley in the statement.<\/p>\n

\u201cI depart after 37 years at CBS with one emotion \u2014 a heart brimming with gratitude for the men and women of CBS News who encouraged and enriched my work, very often at the risk of their own lives. I pray for a day when those people and their ideals are honored again.”<\/p>\n

According to the Associated Press, a report on the Status website detailed accusations Pelley made during an introductory meeting on Monday between the newsmagazine\u2019s staff and Nick Bilton, the new executive producer named by CBS News editor-in-chief Bari Weiss last week.<\/p>\n

Pelley reportedly said Weiss was \u201cmurdering the show\u201d and accused its new producer of having \u201cslender qualifications\u201d for the job.<\/p>\n
