TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) – The man accused of an unprovoked attack at the Laos Transit Center in Tucson late last year has been sentenced.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday, June 2, Godwin Bloomer-Igbokwe was handed a five-year sentence in the state prison system. The state has asked for six years, while the defense requested a four-year term.<\/p>\n

The 28-year-old Bloomer-Igbokwe had been facing charges of attempted second-degree murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and aggravated assault resulting in serious injury. He ended up pleading guilty to aggravated assault.<\/p>\n

The Tucson Police Department said Bloomer-Igbokwe attacked another man in a bathroom at the transit center near Irvington and Park around 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 30.<\/p>\n

The TPD said the victim was \u201cseemingly unaware that the suspect was in the bathroom, opened the bathroom door, and was immediately struck in the head by the suspect with a (piece of metal).\u201d<\/p>\n

The TPD said Bloomer-Igbokwe took a bus to the transit center before the incident and fled the scene before officers arrived.<\/p>\n

The victim suffered significant head injuries and was transported to a local hospital. According to court documents, a piece of the victim\u2019s skull was found at the scene.<\/p>\n

Bloomer-Igbokwe allegedly threatened a second victim with a knife following the initial attack.<\/p>\n

It was the 11th violent attack connected to Sun Tran since April.<\/p>\n
