SURPRISE, AZ (AZFamily)<\/b> \u2014 After nearly two months of investigation, two people are facing charges for the ambush attack on a teen at a large party in Surprise.<\/p>\n

Police said Monday that two children have been identified and charges have been recommended against them. Investigators said the case meets the criteria for Preston\u2019s Law, which creates a new category of assault and establishes in lopsided assaults, also known as swarming.<\/p>\n

Because they\u2019re under 18, the suspects\u2019 names are not being released.<\/p>\n

Police also did not say what charges the suspects face.<\/p>\n

\u201cDetectives are working diligently to identify everyone involved and ensure all appropriate charges are pursued,\u201d the police department said in a statement.<\/p>\n

On April 4, a 15-year-old boy was lured to a pool party near Sarival Avenue and Greenway Road, just seven minutes away from home, according to his attorney.<\/p>\n

The teen was taken to the backyard when he first arrived. That\u2019s where the lawyer said a group stomped on his head, kicked and punched him before throwing him in the pool.<\/p>\n

Videos from witnesses circulated online and show the attack from multiple angles and last for minutes.<\/p>\n

The teen made a run for it and managed to get back home, where his mother called the police.<\/p>\n

Police said this was a \u201clarge, unsupervised gathering\u201d and that the details were shared on social media, drawing a large crowd that the host told police they did not know. <\/p>\n

Preston\u2019s Law was signed into law in May 2025 and was named after Preston Lord, who was brutally beaten by a group of teens in an ambush attack outside a Halloween house party in Queen Creek in 2023.<\/p>\n
