TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) – Authorities said additional human remains have been found at the home of a Pima County woman accused of killing her stepfather in 1975.<\/p>\n

On Monday, June 1, the Pima County Sheriff\u2019s Department said investigators found the remains at Carol Ann Beall\u2019s home, which is near La Canada and Ina Road.<\/p>\n

The 79-year-old Beall was arrested on May 28 in connection with the death of her stepfather, William Reginald Sipfle, who went missing in October 1975. She is facing a first-degree murder charge and is being held on a $500,000 bond.<\/p>\n

After her arrest, investigators learned that more evidence could be concealed on the property, which had belonged to Sipfle in 1975. After a search, the additional remains were found May 29.<\/p>\n

The PCSD said that while DNA testing will be done on the remains, investigators believe they belong to Sipfle.<\/p>\n

According to a records check, Beall\u2019s home is located in the 7400 block of North La Canada Drive. 13 News went to the home Thursday afternoon and saw several detectives and PCSD vehicles in the area.<\/p>\n

The PCSD said some human remains were found at a landfill on South Continental Road near Ryan Airfield in October 1975. Authorities could not identify the remains, and the case went cold for decades.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou had no idea what you have in front of you because you don\u2019t know who this is,\u201d said Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos. \u201cThere\u2019s no fingerprints to be had.\u201d<\/p>\n

In 2025, the PCSD partnered with a company specializing in forensic genealogy. DNA testing led investigators to Sipfle\u2019s granddaughter, which led authorities to Beall.<\/p>\n

Nanos said he hopes genealogy data will help lead to more answers for other families.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re smart enough to know that we\u2019re not gonna have all the answers,\u201d Nanos said. \u201cBut they\u2019re out there, and a lab like this, uh, did a great job in helping us find out exactly not only who Mr. Sipfle was, but also maybe how this event occurred.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sipfle\u2019s granddaughter said he went missing in 1975 when he was 73 years old, but that no missing person report had been filed.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey never made a police report, a missing police report, but they knew he had up and disappeared,\u201d Nanos said.<\/p>\n

Beall made her first court appearance late Thursday night and was in a wheelchair. The judge appointed a public defender to represent her.<\/p>\n

The defense asked the judge to release her to pre-trial services or set a low bond. The defense said Beall has lived in Tucson for more than 50 years and is retired from the U.S. Postal Service.<\/p>\n

The state claimed the primary source of Beall\u2019s wealth came from Sipfle\u2019s death. They said she got up to $600,000 from his pension.<\/p>\n

Beall is set to be arraigned at 1:30 p.m. June 4.<\/p>\n

Sipfle\u2019s family released a statement, which can be read below, following Beall\u2019s arrest.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Sipfle family is relieved to have closure regarding the whereabouts of our grandfather, William Reginald Sipfle, with the positive identification of our grandfather\u2019s remains. Wth this new information about our grandfather, we are processing the circumstances around his death and reliving painful memories of his disappearance and of our father\u2019s efforts to locate his father.<\/i><\/p>\n

\u201cThe Sipfle family would also like to express our appreciation to the Pima County Sheriff\u2019s Department Cold Case Unit, the donated work completed by Resolve Forensics and Intermountain Forensics that made investigative genetic genealogy and identification possible, and to other agencies that participated in his identification.<\/i><\/p>\n

\u201cPlease respect our privacy during this challenging time. Inquiries about our grandfather\u2019s case shall be directed to the Pima County Sheriff\u2019s Department.\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n
