LAKE HAVASU CITY, AZ (AZFamily)<\/b> \u2014 Investigators are asking for the public\u2019s help regarding a decades-old mystery at Lake Havasu.<\/p>\n

Detectives say they\u2019ve developed a possible identity for a man found shot to death in a cove on the lake in 2000. The victim has long been known as the \u201cSleeping Bag Man\u201d because his body was found inside a sleeping bag.<\/p>\n

According to the Mohave County Sheriff\u2019s Office, he was shot multiple times before his body was dumped and discovered by boaters on Oct. 7, 2000, in a cove about three miles north of Sandy Point Marina (now called Sandpoint Marina & RV Park). <\/p>\n

Known identifiers<\/b><\/h4>\n

The man was believed to be between 20 and 40 years old and was described as a white man, standing 5\u203210\u2033 with a mustache and brown hair.<\/p>\n

Deputies said when his body was found, he was wearing blue jeans, Reebok tennis shoes, and a T-shirt with the \u201cHot Boat Magazine\u201d logo on the back.<\/p>\n

He was also wearing a Casio calculator watch, had a utility knife, and a small flashlight inscribed with \u201cJKP.\u201d<\/p>\n

Learning of his life<\/h4>\n

Investigators now believe the man may have gone by Joseph or James Kane with a true last name that started with a \u201cP.\u201d They\u2019re asking anyone who knew a man using those names to come forward.<\/p>\n

Detectives said he may have worked at a paint shop in the 3400 block of Maricopa Avenue between 1992 and 1994, possibly painting jet skis. They also believe he may have later sold real estate and was briefly engaged to a woman named Brandi. <\/p>\n

Authorities also believe he may have previously lived at the Kimberly Apartments, and was living on a boat when he died.<\/p>\n

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Mohave County Sheriff\u2019s Office at 928-753-0753 ext. 4408 and reference report 00-026283.<\/p>\n
