TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) – The United States Postal Service released an update Thursday, May 28, about the issues that forced the closure of the processing and distribution center at 1501 South Cherrybell Stravenue.<\/p>\n

In a statement, a USPS official said, \u201cAs of today, power has been restored in part of the building and the Postal Service has a plan in place to restore power fully as quickly and safely as possible. In the meantime, mail processing operations have been temporarily transferred to Phoenix to maintain continuity of service.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cCustomers may see some mail or packages arrive slightly later than anticipated because of the additional transportation time needed for processing. However, delivery operations are not suspended. Letter carriers are continuing to deliver to every address every day with the mail and packages available for those addresses.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOur employees remain focused on serving Tucson-area customers, and we appreciate the public\u2019s patience as we work to restore normal processing operations.\u201d<\/p>\n

Despite those claims, several viewers from across southern Arizona have reached out to 13 News, saying that their mail has been seriously delayed or hasn\u2019t been delivered in days.<\/p>\n

Below are just some of the emails we have received from our viewers. We have again reached out to the USPS for a statement about the reported delays.<\/p>\n

VIEWER COMPLAINTS<\/b><\/h3>\n

\u201cReports on the USPS delivery problem are wrong. For whatever reason, USPS is NOT in touch with reality. Deliveries have NOT continued. I have also seen that USPS assures everyone that mail service has not been adversely affected on their website as of the time I write this. That is NOT the truth. That is NOT the facts of the situation. I live in Oro Valley. I have not received any mail since Saturday. To the best of my knowledge, reading comments from other area residents … nobody in Marana, Saddlebrook, Catalina or Oro Valley has received any mail since Saturday. The story here is WHY does the USPS continues to claim there are no service disruptions when there obviously has been a total service disruption over the entire area.I went to the Oro Valley post office, and they confirmed they have not received any mail to deliver so far this week. They said not to expect any mail until next week. They are picking up but basically have nearly nothing to deliver.\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n

\u201c(I) have not received mail from USPS in over four days?\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n

\u201cYesterday on the 6 p.m. news, you had a segment about Tucson not getting their mail because of the distribution center problem. Well, here in Sierra Vista, it is the same. Have not gotten my mail since Monday of this week. The informed delivery shows I have mail, but get nothing. People on Facebook are saying the same thing.\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n

\u201cNo mail service in southeast region due to broken sorting machine at USPS. Notification should be made via TV. People need to be notified.\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n

\u201cThere has been no First Class Mail delivery for several days (not including Sunday and holidays) in many parts of Tucson. Neighbors have contacted local post offices and been told that there is a major malfunction of a sorting machine in the Southwestern portion of the postal affecting mail delivery but the postal workers say they aren\u2019t supposed to tell anyone, and they will not take reports of missing mail. Informed delivery emails have not been arriving at the usual times and haven\u2019t been accurate either. The Postmaster General is not taking any responsibility or notifying the public of the problem.\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n

\u201cJust a note: Tucson\u2019s local post office sorting machine for the entire Southeast region, is broken, and they have no idea when or if it will be fixed. Check your informed delivery and see all the mail that is not being delivered. So far have lost pills and bank mail. Cherrybell says due to cutbacks they don\u2019t have any idea when it will be fixed.\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n

\u201cHave you heard about no mail being delivered to customers? It\u2019s been days and postal trucks are empty with nothing but ads. The post office says a mainpostal center is out of power. Others say there is a bigger issue, and it could be weeks to months. I have an important mail that has not arrived and is in limbo. What\u2019s the story?\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n

\u201cPlease investigate why Tucson USPS didn\u2019t deliver any first-class mail after Memorial Day. Delays are city-wide. I\u2019m a local carrier and wish to be anonymous.\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n

\u201cI just wanted you to know the USPS Mail Processing Plant on Cherrybell has been without power since early Sunday morning. Also, for these past two days, USPS employees have been forced to work in the plant with only several small gas generators operating, and portable lights. There are several places where the smell of carbon monoxide is clearly noticeable. Overall, the ventilation is poor, the lighting is poor or non-existent in many employee-accessible areas. The bathrooms are mostly unfit to use and pooely lighted if at all. We have little or no ice to meet the demands of keeping our drinks cold. Today the plan is to have a large generator installed. I don\u2019t see how that is going to work in such a large <\/i>plant.If<\/i> you\u2019ve received reports of people not receiving their letters, that\u2019s why. We were able to manually sort packages.\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n
