GILBERT, AZ (AZFamily)<\/b> \u2014 Six years after Nicholas Cordova was gunned down at his office while on a FaceTime call with his kids, there are still no answers.<\/p>\n

Nicholas Cordova\u2019s family and widow, Alysha Cordova, visited the cemetery on the anniversary of his death to remember him and remind people that his murder case is still open.<\/p>\n

\u201cJust instead of like celebrating, we\u2019re just going to honor and remember him,\u201d Alysha Cordova said.<\/p>\n

She said the grief hasn\u2019t faded. If anything, she said this year feels heavier.<\/p>\n

\u201cMaybe because I\u2019ve been fighting so hard this year for justice for my husband,\u201d she said. \u201cThis year just feels extremely heavy and I\u2019m just really frustrated and angry and just over having to fight for something that we should have had from day one.\u201d<\/p>\n

The shooting<\/h2>\n

On May 27, 2020, two gunmen walked into Gilbert Air near Cooper and Guadalupe roads. Nick was on FaceTime with his children when he was shot and killed inside the business he co-owned.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd my kids still, even though they were so young, they remember and they are traumatized,\u201d Alysha Cordova said.<\/p>\n

Gilbert police have never made any arrests.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey know what\u2019s going on. They have answers and there\u2019s nothing that\u2019s being done,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Civil allegations<\/h2>\n

Civil court filings have accused Nicholas Cordova\u2019s business partner, David Sweetman, of orchestrating the murder for money, naming him as a \u201cperson of interest\u201d \u2014 allegations Sweetman has repeatedly denied.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe not only told me, but multiple friends jokingly, but seriously, that if anything happened to him, that Dave took him out for life insurance money,\u201d she remembered.<\/p>\n

A spokesperson with Gilbert police said detectives are making sure the investigation is thorough enough to bring meaningful accountability.<\/p>\n

Social media attention<\/h2>\n

Alysha Cordova has spent hours posting about Nick Cordova\u2019s case online and years doing what she says feels like detective work herself.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have been doing nothing but looking through police reports,\u201d she said. \u201cI\u2019ve hired a lawyer, have talked to PIs, doing all of these different things.\u201d<\/p>\n

Renewed attention from social media has brought new eyes to the case. For the first time in years, Alysha Cordova said it feels like people are finally listening.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wouldn\u2019t say it feels good, but it\u2019s like I\u2019m finally feeling like everything that I\u2019ve been doing is going to be worth it,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Alysha Cordova said someone knows exactly who pulled the trigger and why. <\/p>\n

Gilbert police said they are committed to pursuing every lead and piece of evidence in the case. <\/p>\n

\u201cOur responsibility is to ensure any charges brought forward are supported by facts, evidence, and a case that can withstand the legal process,\u201d a statement from the department said. \u201cNick and his family deserve a thorough investigation that leads to meaningful accountability and the strongest possible path to justice.\u201d<\/p>\n
