Hooters is rebranding as a family-friendly restaurant, CEO says

(CNN) — Hooters said it wants to rebrand by going back to its original brand.

CEO Neil Kiefer said the restaurant chain started as a beach-themed family-style restaurant.

Now, he told People he wants to correct a problem he said started when private equity companies took over more than 100 locations.

Last year, he and the original owners bought them all back during the company’s bankruptcy.

Kiefer said he will make sure the famous servers wear the original uniform, including the orange shorts. He said some locations had implemented clothing that was more revealing and overly sexualized.

Kiefer also said some locations used the wrong wing sauce and promised to go back to the original recipe.
