MESA, AZ (AZFamily) — A woman is in the hospital after a private gun sale led to a shooting in the parking lot of a Mesa sporting goods store Thursday afternoon.

Police said a woman was trying to conduct a gun sale with a man and a teen outside the Bass Pro Shops at Dobson Road and Loop 202 Red Mountain Freeway.
Something went wrong, and police said multiple rounds were fired just before 1:30 p.m.
Mesa police said that when officers arrived, they found one woman who had been shot. Her current condition is unknown.
Police said the man and the teen were taken into custody.
“If you’re making a firearm sale, use a federally licensed firearms dealer directly or as an intermediary, make sure you do this in a safe place. Do your homework before you meet someone in a parking lot to buy something,” Mesa Detective Robert Katz said.

The public is asked to avoid the area while investigators work.
The Bass Pro Shops store is still open, and no workers were involved or in danger, police said.
