PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Phoenix police have identified the officers who shot and killed an armed man earlier this month, after family members called for help, claiming he was having a mental health episode.

Police say 20-year-old Jonathan Delgado was armed with a knife and running at officers when he was shot and killed around 11 a.m. on Sept. 6 in an alley near 18th Avenue and Cheryl Drive, just south of Peoria Avenue.
Phoenix police said Tuesday that the officers involved were Michael Ugalde-Flores and Gerrit Groenewold.
Family members had reportedly called police for help with Delgado’s mental health and reported he was trying to hurt himself.
Body camera footage was later released showing the shooting and the moments leading to it.
Ugalde-Flores has served with the Phoenix Police Department for five years. Groenewold has been a law enforcement officer for seven years, two of which were with the Phoenix Police Department.

The shooting is still under investigation by the Major Incident Division of the Arizona Department of Public Safety and will be under review by the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office.
The Phoenix Police Department said it will carry out an administrative investigation.
