(13 News) – On the inaugural episode of Wheels, Wings & Rails, Tyler Butler takes a closer look at one of the most historically significant aircraft at the Pima Air & Space Museum: a Boeing VC-137B that once served in the military’s VIP fleet and played a remarkable role in bringing Americans home.

In 1981, the aircraft carried the Americans freed after 444 days in captivity during the Iran hostage crisis on the final leg of their journey back to the United States, flying under the call sign Freedom One. Years later, the same aircraft would carry returning American POWs after Operation Desert Storm. Today, visitors can walk right up to the plane in Tucson and see a piece of history that was once at the center of moments watched around the world.
