COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX/Gray News) – A woman was arrested after police said she drove drunk through a highway construction zone and dragged a worker Monday night.

Mary McGhee, 64, was charged with a third-offense driving while intoxicated and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. She remained held in the Brazos County Detention Center on bonds totaling $70,000.
According to a College Station police arrest report, McGhee drove her vehicle at speeds estimated at more than 60 mph through a construction site near the Southwest Parkway overpass on Highway 6.
Police said workers stopped McGhee before she drove farther into the work zone. When the crew’s foreman reached into her vehicle to remove the keys from the ignition, McGhee put the vehicle in reverse and sped off, dragging him about 70 feet and injuring his arm, the report said.

Other workers stopped McGhee’s vehicle and blocked her in using a street sweeper, while an off-duty officer used his vehicle to block her from the front. Police said McGhee admitted at the scene to drinking a wine cooler before the incident.
According to jail records, McGhee has been booked into the county jail at least 16 times since 2006, with at least two prior DWI convictions.
