LIVINGSTON PARISH, La. (WAFB/Gray News) – A teen girl has been sentenced in connection with the murder of her newborn child.

According to the District Attorney’s Office in Louisiana, the now 15-year-old was ordered to remain in custody until her 21st birthday, which is the maximum sentence for a juvenile.
Kinchen-Gros, assistant district attorney in the Juvenile Division of Louisiana’s 21st Judicial District, presented evidence that in 2025 the teen delivered a full-term baby in her bedroom before taking the child’s life.
Judge Matthew Belser handed down the sentence on Monday.
Authorities said the baby’s body was later discovered in a tote bag in the girl’s bedroom.

“This is an unusual and horribly sad case,” District Attorney Scott Perrilloux said. “I applaud ADA Gros and our team for their determination in bringing justice for this innocent victim.”
Because of the severity of the offense, the state sought to have the teen prosecuted as an adult for first-degree murder.
Officials said that because of her age, the transfer to adult court required a hearing. The court denied that request.
