PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Harkins Theatres is inviting Valley moviegoers to celebrate the life of a country music icon the way she’d probably love best: with popcorn, a big screen and a little Southern charm.

This weekend, select Harkins locations will host special $6 tribute screenings of “Steel Magnolias” (1989) and “The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas” (1982).
All proceeds will benefit Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, the free book-gifting program she founded for children from birth to age 5.
In “Steel Magnolias,” Parton shines as Truvy Jones, the warm-hearted owner of a Louisiana beauty salon, starring alongside an all-star cast that includes Sally Field, Shirley MacLaine, Olympia Dukakis, Daryl Hannah and Julia Roberts.
In “The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas,” Parton teams up with Burt Reynolds in the musical comedy based on the hit Broadway show, playing the spirited owner of a Texas establishment fighting to keep her doors open.

Parton died Tuesday after a brief battle with cancer, leaving behind a legacy that touched music, film, television and philanthropy across several decades.
