LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — A man wanted for allegedly terrorizing residents and visitors in Center City Philadelphia while wearing a mask has been arrested in Las Vegas ending a several-day search, according to federal authorities announced.

22-year-old Zymire Hughes was apprehended in Las Vegas by the U.S. Marshals Service (USMS) Philadelphia branch and the USMS Nevada Violent Offender Task Force.

Manhunt spanned multiple states
Marshals say Hughes fled Philadelphia on Aug. 19, flying from Trenton-Mercer Airport in Ewing, New Jersey, then to Orlando, Florida before landing at Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Investigators determined this was not Hughes’ first time in Nevada. Marshals say he had been living in Las Vegas since February, maintaining ties to both Nevada and California for work.
Suspect hid at apartment complex
Once back in the Las Vegas Valley, investigators say Hughes changed locations to evade capture, hiding at a southeast Las Vegas apartment complex for five days.
The task force spotted Hughes on surveillance footage at the apartment complex, allowing them to zero in on his position.

“But I can tell you, our deputy marshals and our task force officers were extremely happy because it’s 106 degrees out there in Las Vegas,” a U.S. Marshals official said. “And they had spent literally the last four to five days conducting surveillance, running down leads, and just doing what deputy marshals do.”
Suspect resisted arrest
According to the U.S. Marshals, Hughes questioned the arrest and resisted officers, forcing deputies to subdue him.

Hughes was wanted by the Philadelphia Police Department on an active warrant for aggravated assault. Authorities accused him of terrorizing innocent citizens and disrupting the peace in Philadelphia’s downtown area. U.S. Marshals had previously warned Hughes to surrender peacefully or face apprehension by a task force.
Hughes is currently being held at the Clark County Detention Center in Las Vegas as he awaits extradition back to Pennsylvania.
