(Gray News) – Miley Cyrus paid a loving tribute to her godmother Dolly Parton a day after the country music legend died.

Parton died Tuesday after a “brief battle with cancer,” according to her publicist.
Cyrus posted a statement to Instagram Wednesday morning.
“The feeling of losing my Aunt Dolly is beyond what feels right to share. Our most sacred moments were private and they’ll stay there behind the stage, beneath the glamour & between our hearts,” the post started.
“What I KNOW is Dolly would want me to feel it, write a song about it, and then continue on and be strong. I have an angel by my side. I always have. One of our last conversations was about music and metamorphosis. I will always love her and want to make her proud. My heart breaks for the world, her family and friends who will miss her deeply. We’re in this loss together and we will see her in all of the most beautiful things.”

Cyrus and Parton had a long-standing relationship as godmother and goddaughter, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Parton appeared on Cyrus’ breakout show, “Hannah Montana,” as Miley Stewart’s aunt.
The two have performed and collaborated several times.
Parton appeared on Cyrus’ track “Rainbowland” on her album “Younger Now,” and she released a cover of Cyrus’ “Wrecking Ball” in 2023. Recently, Parton released a version of her 1977 hit “Light of a Clear Blue Morning,” featuring Cyrus, Lainey Wilson, Queen Latifah and Reba McEntire.
