18-year-old driver suspected of impairment in deadly north Phoenix crash

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A man is dead, and another is seriously hurt after a crash early Sunday morning in north Phoenix.

Just before 2 a.m., first responders were called to the crash near 12th Street and Bell Road.

When officers arrived, they found two heavily damaged vehicles in the roadway.

A 22-year-old man, later identified as Milson Marley Tessay, died at the scene, police confirmed. An 18-year-old man was taken to a hospital with serious injuries, but he is expected to survive.

Investigators believe the 18-year-old was speeding and impaired while driving an SUV westbound when he collided with Tessay’s sedan that was heading south through the intersection.

Police say charges will be determined once the investigation is complete. The at-fault driver has not yet been identified.

Arizona’s Family crews at the scene saw two heavily damaged vehicles in the roadway, with debris scattered across the area.
