GLENDALE, AZ (AZFamily) — A man whose alleged reckless driving caused two separate crashes in Glendale in March, one of which was deadly, has been arrested.

Ali Thoban Alebadi, 20, was arrested on Aug. 19 for the March 22 crashes and faces charges of murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
At 7:30 a.m. on March 22, Alebadi was seen exiting Loop 101 onto Glendale Avenue and nearly losing control while making a right turn from the off-ramp, police said. He went into the Westgate Entertainment District, where his vehicle was caught on camera cutting off traffic, making wide turns, running at least eight red lights and driving into oncoming traffic, according to court documents.
An officer attempted to pull Alebadi over near 57th Avenue but he wouldn’t stop and sped away, court documents said. The officer began to follow Alebadi and crashed into a 2023 Toyota Tacoma at an intersection. The driver of the Tacoma suffered “serious, life altering injuries” in the crash, the court documents said. The officer was hospitalized but not seriously injured.
Alebadi continued to speed down Glendale Avenue before he hit a Nissan Sentra at the intersection of 51st Avenue, killing the passenger, court documents said. The driver of the Sentra suffered serious injuries and is still in a coma, court documents said.

Alebadi was treated at the hospital for a broken leg and released. His blood alcohol concentration was 0.141 after the crashes, court documents said, and he did not have a valid driver’s license.
Alebadi left the country to avoid arrest but was found and arrested in Glendale on Aug. 19, court documents said. It is unclear where Alebadi fled, but documents said he has connections to Mexico and Iraq.
Alebadi is expected to appear in court on Aug. 27.
