CLARKDALE, AZ (AZFamily) — An officer was forced to open fire after investigators said a man with a knife advanced toward officers earlier this week in the Yavapai-Apache Nation’s Clarkdale community.

According to the Camp Verde Marshal’s Office, a domestic violence call sent Yavapai-Apache Police Department officers to a home somewhere on the reservation around 7:30 p.m. Monday.
When they arrived, they said they saw a man armed with a knife. Police said they told him to drop the knife, but he refused and went inside the home.
When he came back out, investigators said he “advanced” toward officers with the knife.
A Clarkdale Police Department officer used a Taser on the suspect, but it did not stop him, detectives said.

He continued advancing toward officers, so a Yavapai-Apache Police Department officer fired, hitting the man in the shoulder.
He was taken to the hospital. His condition and his name were not released.
No officers were hurt.
The FBI is investigating.
This is the 26th officer-involved shooting outside the Valley in Arizona so far in 2026 and the 56th overall in the state.
