PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A 24-year-old Phoenix man is behind bars after police say he threw gasoline on his ex-girlfriend and set her on fire following a breakup in May.

Angel Nahle is facing multiple felony charges, including aggravated assault and stalking, in connection with a domestic violence attack near 27th Avenue and Bethany Home Road.
According to Phoenix police, the victim ended her relationship with Nahle on May 24. That night, Nahle repeatedly called and texted her, growing increasingly angry when she did not reply.
Around 4 a.m. the next day, the victim answered a FaceTime call from Nahle. Investigators said Nahle accused her of infidelity, threatened to harm her, and showed a water bottle filled with gasoline, threatening to burn her car.
Nahle then arrived at the victim’s apartment in Phoenix while still on the FaceTime call. The victim went outside to try to de-escalate the situation after seeing Nahle standing next to her car with the bottle.
As she looked away, Nahle approached her, threw the liquid on the left side of her body, and ignited it with a lighter, police said. Nahle then pulled off the victim’s burning shirt to help put out the flames.
The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital where she was treated for third-degree burns and underwent multiple surgeries and skin graft procedures.

Investigators said the victim did not report the attack until Aug. 4 out of fear of retaliation. Nahle had reportedly instructed her to tell hospital staff that her injuries were caused by a carburetor fire.
After deciding to come forward, the victim provided police with text messages from Nahle referencing the attack and threatening that he would not be able to stop himself if a similar situation happened again.
The victim also recorded a phone call with Nahle. Police said Nahle admitted on the recording that he initially considered driving to her apartment to shoot her but decided instead to buy gasoline, put it in a water bottle, and set her on fire.
Officers located Nahle at his workplace in Tempe on Tuesday. After being taken in for questioning, he declined to answer questions.
A records check revealed Nahle has two prior domestic violence convictions.
