WASHINGTON (Gray DC) – Rep. Max Miller (R-Ohio) has been facing growing pressure to resign amid allegations of domestic abuse.

Multiple lawmakers called for the congressman to step down Monday after his ex-wife, Emily Moreno, accused him of abuse. Rep. Miller has denied the allegations and defied calls to drop his re-election bid.
“I categorically deny abusing my former wife,” Miller said in a video posted on social media Sunday. “I’m not getting out of this race and I’m winning in November.”
The congressman also said Tuesday that he would be filing for an ethics investigation into himself, writing “I have absolutely nothing to hide.”
The House Ethics Committee Tuesday it’s investigating Miller.
Shortly after Miller made the livestream post, Emily Moreno’s father Sen. Bernie Moreno (R-Ohio), said in a statement on X, that the congressman should not continue to serve in the House of Representatives.
“He is a danger to my daughter, and I hold my breath every minute he has custody of my granddaughter,” Bernie Moreno wrote. “If there are any basic standards of character required to hold elected office, Max Miller fails them. He should not serve in the House of Representatives.”
Emily Moreno as been involved in custody battle over the former couple’s daughter, following their 2024 divorce.
“I have never abused our daughter before,” said Miller in the livestream video. “I go through the facts with you today. Understand one thing. Every one of these allegations traces back to a single source. My former wife. Just want to be clear. No court, no agency has ever substantiated any allegation of abuse against me.”

Emily Moreno’s spokesman, Stefan Mychajliw, responded to the video in a statement on X, writing in part, “It is despicable and abhorrent that Miller lied on an unhinged and humiliating video for their daughter to watch one day… We are confident that justice will prevail in court.”
President Donald Trump was asked about the allegations against Miller at the White House on Monday.
“It’s a very sad thing — especially when you know somebody so well — to be going through that,” Trump said. “But it’s accusations, and I’m going to let them figure that out.”
Sen. Rick Scott (R-Fla.) also said that the embattled congressman should step down Monday. Last week, members of the House Democratic Women’s Caucus called for an investigation into Miller.
The allegations have led some election analysts to predict that the November race for Miller’s seat, in Ohio’s 7th Congressional District, will be more competitive.
“I think if Miller remains on the ballot and continues to run for reelection, as he says that he is doing, that obviously makes this race more competitive than it would be otherwise,” said Erin Covey, U.S. House Editor at The Cook Political Report with Amy Walter.
President Trump won the Cleveland-area district by around 11% in 2024.
Under Ohio election law, Republicans have until Wednesday to decide whether to replace Miller on the ballot for the upcoming election.
