PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Gov. Katie Hobbs is campaigning for re-election while the state attorney general’s office continues a two-year investigation into accusations of a pay-to-play deal involving a state contract granted to a campaign donor.

The case centers on allegations that Sunshine Residential Homes received preferential treatment from the Hobbs administration after making major donations to Hobbs and the state Democratic Party.
No interview date set
Attorney General Kris Mayes has been requesting that Hobbs sit for an interview for most of the year. As of now, no date has been set for Hobbs to meet with Mayes or a prosecutor from her office. The governor’s and attorney general’s offices said they are still in talks.
When asked why the governor had not agreed to the interview, Mayes’ office declined to comment.
Biggs targets Hobbs in new ad
Republican challenger Andy Biggs is running a 30-second campaign ad focused on the investigation. The ad accuses Hobbs of awarding the foster care provider a lucrative state contract after the provider made a six-figure campaign contribution.

“Katie Hobbs is under criminal investigation,” Biggs said in the ad.
Biggs’ campaign said the fact that the investigation has not been resolved is proof that Hobbs believes she is above the law.
Hobbs denies wrongdoing
Hobbs has denied any wrongdoing and has repeatedly said she followed campaign finance laws. The governor has dismissed the investigation as politically motivated.
