Crews search for man swept away in Santa Cruz River

TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) – Pima County Sheriff’s Office has possibly identified the man swept away in the Santa Cruz River on July 17th.

Ernesto Ojeda, now listed by PCSD as a ‘vulnerable adult/missing person’ was last seen near E Palo Verde Road and S Bantam Road around 10:00 a.m. on July 17.

“After several hours of searching by air and ground at various locations along the Santa Cruz River, with assistance from the Tucson Fire Department, deputies were unable to locate the man,” PCSD said in their press release.

Crews are still asking the community to keep an eye out for the man, and to call 911 if seen.

Crews said if Ojeda seems distressed, mentioning his mother, Bernadette, may calm him. PCSD said Ojeda functions on a ten-year-old level.

Crews are responding to a river rescue call in the Santa Cruz River on July 17.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department said a man wearing all black was seen being swept down the river.

He was last seen in the Julian Wash east of the Pima County Adult Detention Complex.

The PCSD said the search is still ongoing.
