PEORIA, AZ (AZFamily) — Investigators are working to piece together what led to a shooting involving two people inside a vehicle in north Peoria late Friday morning.

Peoria police said that at about 11:15 a.m., officers responded to a grocery store parking lot near Vistancia Boulevard and El Mirage Road after witnesses reported hearing a loud “pop.”
Officers found a man suffering from at least one gunshot wound to his upper torso, police said.
Peoria Fire-Medical crews took the man to a local hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
During the investigation, officers learned the involved adult woman left the area before police arrived.

A short time later, police said she was found at a separate location, dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Detectives believe the individuals were known to one another.
This remains an active investigation, and detectives are continuing to gather information about the circumstances surrounding the incident.
