Woman dead after speeding driver runs red light, crashes in Maryvale, police say

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A crash in Maryvale on Thursday night caused by a suspected impaired red-light runner has left a woman dead.

Police said the 21-year-old suspect was speeding when he ran the red light at the intersection of 59th Avenue and McDowell Road just before 11 p.m. and crashed into a white SUV driven by Cecilia Cisneros Cuadros, 43.

The impact of the crash forced the SUV into a 7-Eleven and the truck into a light pole.

Cuadros was taken to the hospital, where she later died.

The suspect showed signs of impairment and was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Police originally said a third person was injured, but that person was not mentioned in Friday afternoon’s update.

The intersection was closed for several hours, but it has since reopened.
