Tucson Now: Alafia restaurant to open African art gallery

TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) – Alafia restaurant is opening a new African art gallery on June 13.

Ismael Lawani has owned Alafia for the last 11 years and says you cannot have the food without the art. Lawani has been collecting art pieces such as baskets, masks and jewelry for years.

Now, his collection will be displayed and shared with the community.

The restaurant and gallery are just a starting point for Lawani. In the future, he hopes to bring even more West African culture to Tucson.
