Officers were called to the motel on Hampton Avenue, north of U.S. 60, near Country Club Drive, after someone said a woman was chasing guests with a knife just before 3 a.m.
Police talked to motel staff, reviewed security video and said they learned the woman was Audrey Gabriel, 53. They saw her with a silver object in her hand.
Police tried to talk to her in her room, but she would not come out.
The guest who reported she was being threatened by Gabriel did not cooperate further, so the officers left.
Then, around 5:30 a.m., police said they received information that Gabriel was threatening another person with a knife.
When officers arrived, she was back in her room and would not come out.
Officers tried calling her on the phone, but she did not pick up. They repeatedly told her to exit the room, but she refused, investigators said.
SWAT members, crisis negotiators and more police officers were sent to the scene to make sure things ended peacefully.

Police said SWAT used different resources to force Gabriel from the room, but did not go into detail about what those tactics were.
Once she came out, less-lethal force was used, and she was taken into custody.
While firefighters were checking her for any medical issues, Gabriel kicked one of them in the upper body.
She was eventually taken to the hospital before being booked into jail on multiple charges, including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, aggravated assault on a first responder and three counts of disorderly conduct.
No one was seriously hurt.
