Andrew C. Warrington, 48, and Kellie J. Warrington, 47, were arrested after authorities discovered the child had been kept locked inside an unfurnished bedroom, according to court documents.
Police said the couple secretly confined their child to an empty bedroom behind a latched door and deprived the child of food, water, light and bathroom access for extended periods of time. Officials said the child endured physical and mental torture.
The couple hid their child’s deteriorating condition by removing the 10-year-old from church activities and not seeking medical or mental health care.
As a result, officials said the child was seriously injured and had to be taken to the hospital for treatment. Without treatment, officials said the child would have died.
Court documents show the child was severely malnourished and had head injuries.
The parents are charged with first-degree kidnapping, intentionally subjecting a child to torture or sexual abuse; child endangerment, serious injury; willful injury, causing serious injury; and neglect or abandonment of a dependent person.
