Thousands cited through Phoenix photo traffic enforcement

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Phoenix traffic cameras are catching tens of thousands of speeders, and many are getting citations in the mail.

The cameras have recorded more than 132,000 events as of May 31, with 17,600 of those resulting in traffic citations being mailed.

The program began issuing citations on March 25 after a 30-day trial period.

As of Monday, 14 of the 17 cameras are in use:

  • Thunderbird Road: 35th Avenue to Interstate 17
  • 32nd Street: Greenway Parkway to Bell Road
  • Thunderbird Road: Interstate 17 to 19th Avenue
  • 7th Street: Thomas Road to Indian School Road
  • Indian School Road: 83rd Avenue to 75th Avenue
  • Camelback Road: 24th Street to 32nd Street
  • 51st Avenue: Van Buren Street to Interstate 10
  • Baseline Road: 16th Street to 24th Street
  • Bell Road: Interstate 17 to 19th Avenue
  • 7th Avenue: Indian School Road to Camelback Road
  • Missouri Avenue: 99th Avenue to 101st Avenue
  • Chandler Boulevard: Desert Foothills Parkway to 6th Street
  • Thunderbird Road: 7th Street to Cave Creek Road
  • 19th Avenue: Peoria Avenue to Cactus Road

Officials said the system activates if you’re caught going 11 miles per hour over the speed limit.
