Shortly before 9 p.m., Phoenix police were called to the crash near 31st Avenue and Buckeye Road. Once police arrived, they found a toddler had been struck by a car and was in critical condition. The boy was rushed to the hospital but later died due to his severe injuries.
Investigators say no one was watching the boy when he wandered out into the driveway and was struck by a car. The driver, identified as Carlos Rojas Mora, 35, pulled over, got into another vehicle and fled the scene.
Phoenix detectives later located Mora, who was taken into custody. He was booked on charges of hit-and-run with death.
