Carol Ann Beall, 79, was arrested today, May 28, in the 7800 block of North Starr Grass Drive.

The PCSD says the case started in October 1975 when a man discovered human remains at the Pima County Waste Transfer Station and contacted deputies.

Investigators collected evidence at the scene but could not identify the remains and could only determine they belonged to a male.

In 2025, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department partnered with a company specializing in forensic genealogy to assist in identifying unidentified human remains.

Detectives submitted evidence for advanced DNA testing and genealogical analysis. DNA efforts led investigators to identify the granddaughter of the deceased. She stated her grandfather had gone missing in 1975, though no missing person report had been filed.

The information generated a lead for detectives to positively identify the victim as William Reginald Sipfle, who was 73-years-old at the time of his disappearance.

Following the investigation, detectives arrested Beall, who happens to be the victim’s stepdaughter, for first degree murder in connection to the 1975 cold case homicide.

She was booked into the Pima County Adult Detention Complex.

Court records show she is being held on a $500,000 bond.
